Syllabus

Reading a syllabus is like trying to get rid of an infestation of mice.  No matter how many assignments you find and "kill", there is always whole nest of ugly squeaky assignments that are just out of sight.

Prayer

Prayer has many purposes and aspects, but this post specifically speaks to intercession (praying on behalf of others).  Countless times I have uttered the phrase "I will pray for you" and to my shame many times I have failed to do so.  I have tried a few methods to help with my "goldfish like" memory, but all have failed with time.  Recently I began to use echoprayer.com.  I recommend this website to anyone who struggles with a similar problem.  You put specific prayer requests on echoprayer and set times each day to have random reminders sent.  You can have the reminders sent to your phone via sms or to your email.  I have 3 requests sent to my email each day, so when I check my email it reminds me to instantly get on my knees for that person or situation.  I know it is sad that I need such a strategy, but I do, so it is helpful.

Thrills of Theology

I finished week one of my first class in Seminary.  Reflecting upon this week, I believe that seminary is like a theological theme park.
In a theme park you experience things which would be terrifying if not for the "safe" environment.  In any other context going 120 miles an hour with your hands in the air is cause for panic, but on a roller coaster it's a blast.
So in seminary, we get all the thrills of debating and discussing theology which could be terrifying outside of this "safe" environment.  The thrill is that of a philosopher building his world view, yet in any other context these truths have wonderful and terrifying consequences, to the degree that I tremble at the thought of getting one wrong.

My Journey

Born and raised mainly on the west coast of Michigan, I grew up the son of a Baptist pastor.  My father plays a particularly large role in my theological journey.  I graduated my undergrad from Baptist Bible College with a Bachelor of Science in Bible.  Living out in "the real world" for two and a half years since, I am now married with our first baby on the way.
God has blessed, and life is satisfying; Monday I begin my first class at Baptist Bible Seminary.  This blog is purposed to track my beliefs as I continue my pursuit of the knowledge of God.  I aim to post periodically; posing questions or teaching what I have learned.  Regardless of how far off I am starting, or where I end up, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of who God is as He has revealed himself in the Scripture.  I welcome anyone who is reading this to continue to track along with me.

In the love of Christ,
